Does taxes have you down?
Can't
pay your taxes all at once? You can pay in installments by completing
Form 9465, Installment Agreement Request, and attaching it to the front
of the return. You should send as much of the payment as possible with
the return in order to limit penalty and interest charges which will
continue accumulating until the total amount due is paid off. Taxpayers
who have already mailed or electronically filed their returns can mail
Form 9465 to their appropriate IRS Service Center. An IRS representative
will contact you to discuss the situation and arrange the payments. Contact Liberty Tax for all your questions. They will be glad to help you.

The Tax Filing Deadline Cometh
You’ve
still got time to get your taxes done before the April 15th tax
filing deadline, but if you’re a procrastinator, here are a few questions you
may want to ask yourself. Do I need
more time to file my federal tax return? If you answered, “yes,” you can
get an IRS extension. Taxpayers can get an automatic six-month extension
to file if they request one by the April 15th tax filing deadline
using Form 4868. The extension gives you more time to file, not more time to
pay. You must estimate your total tax liability and pay the amount due to avoid
paying interest and penalties. I
think I owe the IRS, should I wait to file? No. If you owe
taxes but can’t afford to make the payment, you should file your tax return by
the April 15 deadline to avoid late filing penalties and interest. You should
also contact the IRS at 1-800-829-1040 to discuss payment options, including a
short-term extension to pay, an installment agreement or an offer in
compromise. I want to contribute to my IRA, is it too late? No
problem, the deadline is April 15 to open a traditional IRA. This may help
lower their tax liability for 2014. You may also want to check out the Saver’s
Credit. If you’re eligible, you get two tax breaks for the price of one. I don’t think I can do this by myself.
Where can I get help? Gather your important paperwork and head to a tax preparer. Tax preparers love this
time of year. They can handle the tedious work for you and submit your return
on time.

What Medical Deductions do You Qualify For?
Are
you overlooking medical deductions for which you qualify? Taxpayers
who itemize can deduct non-reimbursed medical expenses that they paid
during the year if these exceed 10% (7.5% if age 65 or older in 2014) of
their adjusted gross income. Hearing aids, eyeglasses, contact lenses,
hospital fees for nursing, most dental expenses, physical therapy, lab
tests and x-rays are all deductible. Even some capital improvements
with medical purposes can be claimed as medical expenses, such as
constructing an entrance ramp. If you have any questions, contact the great folks at Liberty Tax Service and they will help you. They have locations in Cordele, Tifton and Albany.

Donating Cars to Nonprofit Organizations
Do
you plan to donate your used car to a nonprofit organization? You may
not be able to claim the “blue book value” of the car. The IRS has
placed limitations on the amount that may be deducted for a vehicle
donation. The amount that can be claimed will be based on how the
charity or nonprofit organization actually uses the vehicle. If you have any questions, please contact Liberty Tax Services and they will be glad to assist you. You can reach them at (229) 496-1793.

Liberty Tax Service Lends a Hand to American Heart Association
Recently Liberty Tax Service in Tifton had the pleasure
of meeting Lelan Peugh, the 7 year old son of Courtney and Allison Peugh. Lelan has been collecting money for the
American Heart Association over the last couple of weeks for Jump Rope for
Heart at Omega Elementary School. Lelan
wanted to help raise money for the heart association to help those with heart
disabilities. What a great thing for a 2nd
grader to set his mind to accomplish.
Liberty Tax Service wanted to help too!
Liberty Tax Service has a “Send A Friend” program where when someone
refers a customer to Liberty Tax Service, the person whom did the referring
receives $50. Some people come in to
file their taxes without a “Send A Friend”.
On February 6th, in honor of “Wear Red Day” with the American
Heart Association, for every customer that came in to one of our Liberty Tax
Offices that did not have a “Send A Friend”, the $50 send a friend went to the
American Heart Association. Liberty Tax
Service donated $300 to Lelan for Jump Rope for Heart/American Heart
Association. Lelan was one happy little
boy. He even took Liberty Tax Service
pencils to all his classmates! “Thank
you so much for helping Lelan” stated Allison “Liberty is a Fantastic
Organization”! Liberty Tax Service was
honored to help.
